GW FacTions V.S. ProPheCies
What you think is better GW factions or GW prophecies?
I think GW Factions is a 3 on a scale of 10, because they have over 150 new skills for your character to obtain, but you need over 150K to obtain them, and I'm no way close to that rich. Also the story goes WAY too fast, I got off the newbie island at lvl 13, just with henchmen, I did all the quests and missions too! Then I see lvl 20s raping me while I try and escape. They need to relax on there missions too, its very fustrating playing with newbies who dont listen and then we loose again and again, then when you try with henchmen you get so close, but no cigar (mission where you have to kill 100 mobs just to beat it in 15 minutes + extra time, I swear this is a Thunderhead Keep type mission, because I cannot advance without beating it, and a lot of groups dont know how to beat it, so early in the game too). One thing I do like about it is that when I went to island on my 20 prophecy character and killed a mesmer boss, I got a purple mesmer weapon, same with other bosses, I get whatever type of boss they are and weapon of there type, and normally good. Also another thing I hate is that they make it seem like PvP since the mobs your facing normally have a healer, have 2 warriors, then rest are whatever. And I hate how this game is 80% for lvl 20s, not everyone has GW prophecies, so why make it 80% for lvl 20s, thats insane! There is not much area to farm for normal characters, because 80% for lvl 20s, and lvl 20 cant take on 8 lvl 20s that are PvP style, no one can solo PvP style group with 8 people in it, because they steal your enchantments, or blind you, or hack you, seems like all rangers have throw dust in this game. Also, not a big variety of mobs, all i see is those ugly guys that explode, and a bunch of npcs that are a certain class. This game is some kind of a joke, because ritualists are just like necromancers, and assassins skills are just like warrior skills, and they expect everyone to get 150K gold and spend them on skills so you can use them on your roleplaying character, they should have made more quests to get skills, so you can at least get 50% of the skills, rather than 2%. The alliance battle however is very fun, I like it because its not difficult to get into a group, and to get faction for your guild or balthazar faction, also lots of fun, because you can do several 1-1s, since not many like to regroup after they die. This game is rated 9/10 on the hardcore scale for me, and rated 3/10 for quality.
Now the prophecies, I rate this game 9 of 10, because it gives you enough area to explore for your level. Also is more relaxing, because they dont raise the mob level that much each time you get to new mission area, you could do all missions and you would be in the perfect lvl range. There are places to farm, since there is 60% area not for level 20s. Its better for teaching you how to play the game, because you get skills from quests, and you learn about the difference in skills and what they can do. Missions are not that difficult in this game, except for a few. There are a wide variety of mobs, and for each variety you can tell basically what they do, and there weakness, because they normally dont hang around mobs that cover there weakness. But a few changes made this game kinda more difficult, the NPCs you face in tombs is bunch of PvP characters, and if your going to fight in tombs, and all I wanted to do in the tombs was to face other groups for fame, not a bunch of NPCs to see if we can take them, or if they keep healing themselves so nobody wins. Also in this game, unlike GW Factions you can goto the Underworld to get Chaos Swords, and Eternal Bows, etc. And this game is in many enviroments, kinda like Diablo2, you start in a place with similar environment then move to another place, like desert, mountains, jungle, etc. One thing I hate about this game is if your new, and didnt know there was hidden skills you get from quests in Pre Searing, you cannot go back there and get them, I have missed a lot of good skills in Pre Searing that I wish I could go back and get, I had no clue about hammer and axe trainers in Pre Searing, after I made a new character like 2 months later. This game is rated 4/10 on hardcore scale for me, and rated 10/10 for quality.
So basically I think Guild Wars Prophecies is way better than Guild Wars Factions.

I started a Tyrian Elementalist simply because I'm always asked to play one in GvG. I hate the Cantha hair and faces, so I made it Tyrian. In the amount of time my Assassin was level 7, my Elementalist is level 3. Gameplay/Progress wise, Factions > Prophecies.

It doesn't take long to get to level 7 in Prophecies if you know how to do it.This can all be done in presearing just kill the bull in the lake and the drake in the river and scale in cave more than a few times. Then there is the charr north of the wall as well as oakheart and there is one by Fort Ranik. It is easier to farm for material in pre for your post amour.Prophecies for me then Factions. The low level henchies work better as well in Tryria. There has been a thread about this already about this.
I like the wide open spaces in Prophecies as well to explore in Factions is to closed in.

My characters have generally left the island at around level 18. Even so, the city can be pretty tough, especially before you upgrade armor pieces and pick new skills. Having newb AR 15 boots on my Elementalist lead to her taking like 500 points from the Jade Brotherhood's Elementalist boss. Teammates and henchmen are needed to help out. It's tough, but not insurmountable.
Not having Prophecies, I really liked how the game put characters at max level fairly quickly. Not having to grind for levels is pretty nice, and it really emphasizes building skill mixes rather than gaining raw power.
Skill costs probably do escalate too quickly for new characters though. Buying a versatile array of skills on the island really turns against one upon reaching the better trainers in the city, since it causes the costs to up much faster. On the other hand, a less harsh skill cost would lead to trivial skill acquisition for older, richer characters.

Cost for skills aint really that major.
A lot of skills are duals, and you can't use every skill at once. And you only use 8 skills at once. I run PvE with a very similar build most times.
I prefered Proph for story, it was a bit more classic, while so far the Shiro story is a bit meh.

Yes, just buy the skills you need.
I'll choose Prophecies over Factions whever I can. My lvl20 sin is still on its way to ascalon, and than goes through the normal Prophecies game again.

It depends on what you want. I am trying to get a survivor title going so I started a Tyrian Character and struggled to get to Lion's Arch without getting killed. I had to bail on several runs because of aggro.
After finally getting to LA, I took the boat to Cantha and am watching the experience run up fast. I can now sit back with large parties of level 20 henchmen and let them earn experience for me. I can also buy a lot of skills I need and get the best armour.
Both games have their pros and cons.
In the end, since buying Factions I still spend most of my time in Prophecies.

With a new chapter coming out every 6 months I don't see how anet could add enough content in each chapter to make the mob levels increase slowly like it does in Prophecies. A large majority of content would be lost to players that bring their prophecies characters over to factions. I understand that if your new to Guild Wars and you only have Factions, then there is a steep learning curve for the new player, and that the AI increase to lvl20 straight off the island is to the benefit of the seasoned player thats been thru the Prophecies campaign. I'm personally all in favor of more lvl20 content, that means more exp, more chances of gold chests, green items, and gold drops from high level monsters.
Not sure what you mean about pvp style mobs, I'm assuming you mean more balanced groups to fight. I think this is a good thing. It makes you think.
You can gain access to the UW in factions, and its called a Chaos Axe (there's not a chaos sword oh how I wish)
As for opening skills in Factions, I don't find a problem with it. You can do the training missions on the Starter Island to gain some core skills, and the first handful of skills you purchase are less than 1k. If your short of cash and need a quick 1k, then do an Alliance battle.
Prophecies and Factions both have multiple environments, I'm not sure why you think that factions only has one? Factions has Mountains with snow, a city, the jade sea, lush mountain areas with no snow, and a huge forest.
You can relate Chapter1 & Chapter2 to reading a book. Chapter 1 has a long introduction and slowly builds the story to get the reader into the "book". Now, anet may be assuming that most people have read chapter 1 and want to move on to Chapter 2 as quickly as possible, this is why Chapter 2 only has only a short introduction to recap the events of chapter 1, but with the main focus to move on to Chapter 2 and not lose the readers attention.

hyppe, i think that quote refers to the dragonĀ“s throat challenge. vizunah is hard, but doable, thats one of the few missions where a MM is very welcomed.
as an owner of both games, i preffer factions, due to the fast leveling, the only reason why i return to prophecies is to either buy proph skills or to farm, other than that im having a blast with factions.

Ill address your post here, this will be long, and if would have been nice if you used better paragraphing.

You dont need every single skill in the game, in addition gold is not hard to obtain, quests in faction give 150 gold and a commedation upon completion as well as 3k exp, just from quest awards you can keep up with skill costs, also prophecies skills are just as expensive.

If you did all the quests you would be at least level 17, you must have missed a couple.

Try doing the quests in bukdek byway, not very many enemies and several easy quests here that can allow you to reach level 20 easily. Also consider taking the quest in the city that changes the enemys in the east side of the bazzar to friendly, then do all the quests in the bazzar.

the 15 mins + extra time comment makes me think it is a challenge mission, challenge missions are completely optional. There is a primary quest giver in that zone that lets you into the next real mission. The manual that came with the game has information on these challenge missions.

Whats wrong with well constructed enemy groups, I prefer having to do more than c spacing my way through pve areas. Also consider bosses have static spawn locations, no more having to revisit a zone hundreds of times to hope a boss would spawn at the other end of the map.

Now your starting to make me laugh, do you think you should, at level 20 be able to SOLO 8 enemies? The whole soloing crap is whats wrong with prophecies and made botting very easy. THe game being 80% for level 20s allows that much more challenging REPEATABLE content.

You also now get money for completing quests and missions to cover the costs of skills, you only need to buy skills you use. Also you dont feel restricted to skills given to you because you now know that there are no more skill quests so you can go ahead and get that good skill earlier and use it for the rest of the game. Instead of being forced to not get the skill till late in the game and thus miss out in using it all the while.
Just remember 5 commendations = 1 superior salvage kit = 2k
5 quests = 1 skill point and 750 gold in the city and 5 commendations
So where is the gold problem?

Prophecies has more to do, more excitement and is highly replay-able. Best PC game I've ever played.
Factions is a good game but doesn't have the expanse and 'awe-factor' that prophecies throws at you.

It is for this very reason that I rate Prophecies > Factions.
In Prophecies, it felt like you had to earn every level you reached, and you also got skills gradually along the way. It made getting to level 20 worth something, IMO.
In Factions, a ton of people make it off the newbie Island at level 20 (myself included). These are the same people that step out the door of The Marketplace and get annihilated...mainly because they haven't had to experience how to deal with tougher enemies (heck, the only quest that I found remotely challenging on Shing Jea was the Captured Son quest).
Other than that, I find Factions just as enjoyable as Prophecies. The AI is a bit tougher (especially for someone like me that is soloing without henchmen), which is very nice as well.

The progress is pretty much the same, unless you consider level the only part of your character's development. You level faster in factions because of the insane amounts of XP you get, which is because 1) you have to buy all of your skills (so you need insane amounts of XP for extra skill points) and 2) you need to reach level 20 fast so that Tyrian characters can join in on the campaign.
If you didn't level fast in factions you'd either get level 5 canthans trying to do level 20 missions or level 20 tyrians doing level 5 canthan missions. Either of which would be completely fubared.
The only real problem with the way they've done things is that this makes it much, much easier for factions characters to get "survivor" titles.
